I have an inexplicable fascination for these compelling non-human faces. They range from 4x4" up to 6x8". I think I've done over 1000 to date, but I've been too busy to count them!

These have their own collection because they're not all pet portraits nor ranch animals nor miniatures, and because I love them!

I started this series a few years ago when I was bored. I challenged myself not to paint anything I had already painted, and to try to find all the photo references in my own collections.

The series was successful, because I still haven't finished, which meant it got me out of my rut and painting again!

The main focus of this series for me has been the effect of sunlight and shadow on skin tone, and also creating strong portrait compositions within the small size constraint.
