Pastel Portraits
Several Pastel Portraits can be seen in my artwork collections. I prefer to take my own reference photos if possible, or I can give you advice on photographing your subject. The quality, lighting and composition of the reference photos has a direct relation to the quality of the finished portrait. My goal with each Pastel Portrait commission is to create a work of art of award-winning quality; an heirloom that can be passed down through generations.

Expect a Pastel Portrait to take 4-8 months from initial planning stages to completion.

Pastel Portrait Commission Prices

Prices are for one person, simple background. 20% off each additional subject in the same painting. Size will be influenced by the number of subjects and desired view. Complex setting/background may add 30%-100% depending on complexity and painting size.

Added pets will be priced on the scale listed below.

All travel, lodging, framing, applicable taxes and shipping expenses are additional.

Pastel Pet Portraits    

By popular demand, I now offer pastel pet portraits from suitable client photos, priced on a similar scale as my other animal paintings. Currently priced by size, the following list is for single-subject pet portraits, head/shoulders with simple backgrounds. Each additional pet in the same portrait will add 50%, but in that case, all pets should be in the same photo, or all photo references should have the same lighting and viewpoint.

Prices are subject to change without notice. Prices are unframed; ask me about framing availability. More pets in a portrait may require larger sizes. Complex backgrounds and/or full body portraits may add to the price. Expect Pet Portraits to take 4-12 weeks for completion and delivery, depending on the time of year.

Larger sizes than those listed, or custom sizes larger than 12x12, are currently calculated at $5/square inch for a single subject.

Pencil Portraits

These Detailed Pencil Portraits have been a thriving business for me since 1985, especially during the Holiday season. These are mostly drawn from your photos, and almost any photo will do, as long as the detail in the face is clear. I can also combine separate photos into one family portrait. Expect a Pencil Portrait to take up to 4-8 weeks on average from when your order is confirmed. (I have a much faster turnaround during the Christmas Season, sometimes as little as 1-2 weeks, as more of my time is devoted to these orders. Please contact me.)

8x10, One Face $300

12x15, One Face $600

16x20, One Face $1000

Each Additional Face in the same drawing $200

These prices are for a "basic" head & shoulders portrait. The number of faces that can fit in a portrait are limited by the size of the paper. For example, I can only fit two faces on an 8x10. On a 12x15, I can fit up to four or five faces. The prices for each face are as outlined in the list above. NOTE: Humans and pets are priced the same for these. Pets are people too! :)

To include hands, arms, body and/or background details will add 50-200% depending on the image and estimated time involved.

The Detailed Pencil Portraits are drawn with black conte drawing pencils and white pastel pencils on a gray acid-free art paper. 8x10 portraits include an 11x14 mat. 12x15 portraits include a 16x20 mat. Occasionally, a selection of frames are available for these sizes. Please inquire. Sales tax and framing is additional.

Shipping

Shipping/Handling within the continental USA is (unframed) $15 for 8x10 pencil portraits and $25 for larger sizes. International orders will receive a custom shipping/handling quote based on location. Portraits are shipped from New Braunfels, Texas, USA.
