"Vernon" Chosen for the
DP ad in the PJ
Vernon
Vernon
My opening demo at last month's Dakota Pastels
workshop (which I titled "Vernon"
after Mount Vernon, WA, of course!) was so well liked by Craig at DP
that they chose it for their next full page ad in the fall issue of
Pastel Journal
!

Blick Art 10 Minute Demo
for Pastel Live
Image 5778078
Pastel Live 2024 is coming soon! I
was asked by Blick Art Materials , one of
their sponsors, to record a 10 minute demo for one of their
advertisements during this year's Pastel Live. (Ok, it was painted in
about 90 minutes, but edited down to 10 minutes for the ad ;)
Blick was super generous to send me these two pastels sets, Unison and
Diane Townsend Terrages, to use for the demo (along with a bottle of
Golden fluid Azo Gold acrylic to show in this photo!) It was fun and
educational to limit my palette this way; I only added about 3 or 4
other pastels into the painting.
Though I'm not on the official faculty for this year, they did let me
send in my supply list and bio to be listed with the others. Cool! I
don't know when the ad will be airing, but if your enjoying Pastel Live
this year, be watching
for it! (If you haven't signed up yet and you want to, use the code
KIRKMAN for 10% off!)
BTW, "Hala", the Arabian colt painting, will be available in the Pastel
Live Auction! The auction will open on Monday, September 16th, and will
end on Saturday, September 21st at 10pm ET. I won't have the link to my
auction until next week, but you can check the Pastel Live site on the
17th for the Auction page!

Drawing-a-Day for 22 Days
September is my long trip away from home. I left West, TX, on Labor Day
after working the WestFest . Yesterday started
the New Mexico State Fair , where I'm
working in another artist's booth on the main midway (VERY busy!!) for
10 days. The weekend following that is the Plano Balloon Fest
.
My husband convinced me when I did this last year to just travel from
one to the next and not come home in between.
So I'll be away 22 days total, and I decided I aught to set a goal to
kick myself back into the swing of (art) things. (Caricatures don't
count, unless there's no other option, lol.)
My goal is to do a drawing (from life) every day while I'm away. So I
brought along some black n white and gray-toned drawing materials and a
gray sketchbook, and have done 6 drawing so far for these 6 days past.

For grins, here's a couple of my fave caricatures from West. Stay tuned
for more as my "Drawings" of the Days continue, until I get a little
free time again to add to the sketchbook.
