Rita Kirkman Studio - Art News

June 2016

Summer is here at last! The kids are lazing around the house and I have, for a while at least, the illusion of more time. I'm using that time to get organized for the rest of the year, entering shows and scheduling more workshops!

"Deep Sheep" (pastel, 28x25 inches)

I'm happy to announce that my painting "Deep Sheep" will be a part of the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) 28th Juried Exhibition, which will be hosted at the historic Salmagundi Club, New York City.

New International Collector

I'd like to say thank you to my new clients Anna and Stefan from Switzerland, for purchasing my third large sheep painting "Three... Five... Seven". They saw "Deep Sheep" on DailyPaintworks.com in December and fell in love. Since that one wasn't available at the time, we worked together to come up with another similar composition. Now I'm having loads of fun with sheep and have more paintings planned!

Does an Artist Need a Website?

a new Art Journal Post

I had a conversation with a friend the other day, about whether a professional artist really needs a website.

She asked: "Rita, may I ask you a side question? Does a professional artist need a website? How can I argue that I really need one?

I suppose one's attitude might depend on one's budget. But in my opinion, an artist can't afford NOT to have some online presence where they can showcase their work. That doesn't necessarily mean...
