"Just Down the Road a Bit" (pastel, 6x12 inches, available here) was my first official painting of the Two Rivers Plein Air Event earlier this month. I planned most of that Tuesday for painting out, and knowing me, I knew I could easily loose all the best light by driving around too long looking for somewhere "perfect", so this was literally just down the road from my house, maybe a half mile at most. I saw the nice light and shadows from the trees, and with no further debating, pulled over and settled in (in my driver's seat, lol) to paint!
It's a simple scene, but it's all about the light. The judge liked it enough to give it an Honorable Mention. :)
Here's the view from my "easel" when I was done. (My goodness, the shadows shorten quickly when plein air-ing!) See more progress pics here of how I underpainted this painting with reds and pinks!
