Rita Kirkman Studio - Art News

Summer 2017

Being so late with my June Newsletter, and no respite in sight, I decided to combine the summer months and call it "Summer"! If I end up with any exciting tidbits between now and September, I might send out a special announcement... ;)

A very short IAPS re-cap

I just came back from a great time at the International Pastel Convention (IAPS) Among the excitement of giving a one-day workshop, and a 2-hr demo, My newest large figurative painting, "Transience of Innocence" (pastel, 26x19in.) showed in the IAPS Master Circle Exhibition, and was chosen for the Convention Program Cover! I had a hard time keeping that a secret!

For the workshops and demos I signed up to take, I concentrated on landscape this year. Stan Sperlak, Rae Smith, and Collette Odya Smith were wonderfully inspiring (and just an appetizer before Albert Handell's garden workshop at his home in Santa Fe immediately following the convention!)

Especially fun were some outings early in the week, plein air painting with old and new friends Lyn Diefenbach, Laura Pollack, Maria Marino and Lyn Asselta. I'm so glad I went a couple days early to deliver my painting and save the shipping!

Golden Wins Award at PPSCC

"Golden" (pastel, 12x9 inches)

I think I posted this one a while back when she was finished, but wanted to re-post now that she has her first award! "Golden" has won the Terry Ludwig Pastel Award at the the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod annual exhibition For Pastels Only on Cape Cod 2017.

A big thank you to Jacob Aguiar, judge of awards.

The show continues through July 16, 2017 at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, South Yarmouth, MA.
(If she returns unsold from Cape Cod, she might be on her way to Italy this fall! More on that later!)

You can view progress shots of Golden on her earlier blog post HERE!

Ann Arbor Street Art Fair - The Original

Ann Arbor, MI - July 20-23, 2017

My first out-of-state art festival and where do I go but 1400 miles away! But it also just happens to be an hour away from my childhood home, and 90 minutes from my best friend's house!

I'm excited to be included in this top-ranked art festival, not the least because I get to go to a place where the average July temp is 85, and where they think 90 degrees is hot!! Haha!

You can find me in booth #145 on E Washington St.
